This came from me doing a painting, and Louis being very frank:

“Dan, I think you need to move outside your usual frame of reference.” Maybe a little less polished, but that was the sentiment.

This basically made me add a bunch of scribbles and putting more colours in. From this, a little flamingo starts to emerge in the middle, so I gave him an outline and a beak. Looks like there might be a porpoise swimming across too, I hadn’t noticed that until now.

Now to seem educated - “It feels a bit Basquiat to me.”
